HOPTOWN
Location: Sunnyside, Washington
Type: Commercial
Sustainability: Adaptive Reuse
Adaptive reuse of a 1970s era, 2,800 sf restaurant aims to breathe new life into the downtown area of Sunnyside, WA. The building houses the second location of local restaurant Hoptown Pizza. In collaboration with the Port of Sunnyside, the project not only aims to foster economic growth but also strives to elevate the design aesthetic of downtown Sunnyside. The project team, committed to sustainability through adaptive reuse, incorporated distinctive elements of the original building, including exposing existing glulam beams that extend from the interior outward. Additionally, a range of enhancements have been implemented, featuring an energy-efficient envelope, expanded existing openings, and the introduction of a skylight to infuse natural light into the core of the space. Other notable design features include a new screen on the facade and the addition of an exterior patio adorned with lights and hop poles, bringing vibrancy to the street and seamlessly incorporating Hoptown's essence into the overall design.
