EAGLE HARBOR RESIDENCE

Location: Bainbridge Island, Washington
Type: Residential

Located on Bainbridge Island, tucked into the protection of Eagle Harbor, this project is a substantial reinvention of an existing waterfront home and cottage. The first phase focused on reworking the cottage and the basement of the main house. Both structures were stripped back to the bones, inside and out. Upon completion of the cottage, the family moved into it, using it as a temporary residence while the second phase proceeded: a full transformation of the main house.

The renovation of the primary residence involved both an addition and a reduction of the main volume, including the demolition of a significant portion of the existing structure. This reduction allowed the plan to be clarified and reorganized around a single, open living volume. Kitchen, dining, and living spaces now flow together, with walls removed to create a clear spatial hierarchy and uninterrupted connection to the landscape and water.

A defining architectural move is the extended roofline, which reaches far over the side of the house to create generous outdoor living space. Much of this exterior area is covered, yet daylight streams in through integrated skylights, resulting in a highly functional outdoor dining and living room.

Together, these moves result in a home that is deeply connected to its setting within Eagle Harbor, where interior and exterior living spaces are carefully balanced, views are shared rather than claimed, and the experience of moving through the house is open, legible, and intentional.
