CHUCKANUT BAY RUGBY
Location: Ferndale, Washington
Type: On The Boards
Established in 1963, the Chuckanut Bay Rugby club serves Whatcom county and surrounding communities, competing from U6 mini rugby through Senior Women’s and Men’s teams. Many players from the club have gone on to represent the United States, the Seattle Seawolves, and have played professionally abroad.
The DeWilde Rugby and Polo Fields have been home to Chuckanut Bay Rugby since 1973, and was gifted to the club by the DeWilde Family Foundation in 2018. The grounds have become known as a pillar of Pacific Northwest rugby and have been a common meeting place for American and Canadian Rugby teams. Recognizing the importance of developing the site to meet the needs of a growing club and sport in the U.S., volunteers and club members pulled together and regraded, irrigated, and actively maintain the most immaculate natural rugby grounds in the Pacific Northwest in preparation for the new development.
Graham Baba is designing new grandstands and viewing platforms for approximately 500 visitors, as well as accessory program elements like concession, locker rooms, restrooms, and training & medical rooms.
